    What chemical reagent is pvp

    Release Date:2022-11-01

Pvp is a polyvinylpyrrolidone chemical reagent. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a non-ionic polymer compound. PVP is made from vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) monomer by bulk polymerization, solution polymerization and other methods.

There are two main polymerization routes for PVP production. The first is solution polymerization of N-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) in organic solvent, and then steam stripping. The second route is aqueous solution polymerization of NVP monomer and water-soluble cationic, anionic or non-ionic monomer.

    Physical and chemical properties

    1. Density: 1.144g/cm3

    2. Boiling point: 217.6 ° C

    3. Melting point: 130 ° C

    4. Flash point: 93.9 ° C

    5. Average molecular weight: 8000-700000

    6. Stability: stable under normal temperature and pressure

    7. Solubility: It is extremely soluble in water and halogenated hydrocarbon solvents, alcohols, amines, nitroalkanes and low molecular weight fatty acids, but insoluble in acetone, ether, turpentine, aliphatic hydrocarbons and alicyclic hydrocarbons. It is compatible with most inorganic acid salts and various resins.

    8. Properties: It is a white or nearly white powder with hydrophilic property and easy to flow, with slight odor.

Cross linked homopolymer of pure vinyl pyrrolidone. It is capable of complexing polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) with a variety of substances (such as various clathrates that cause wine and other drinks to change color). It is easy to be removed after filtration due to its insolubility.
